Northeast Senate League Opens Search for New League Commissioner 

The Northeast Senate League, a newly formed high school athletic conference serving student-athletes across Carroll, Stark, and Tuscarawas Counties, has officially opened the search for its founding League Commissioner.

As the primary executive officer for the conference, the Commissioner will play a vital role in shaping the future of local high school sports. The league is seeking a principled leader to serve as the essential link between member school districts, the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), and the broader interscholastic athletic community.

A Critical Role for Regional Athletics

The Commissioner will oversee all league operations, including managing league budgets and procuring championship awards, as well as facilitating monthly meetings with Athletic Directors and quarterly sessions with District Superintendents. A key component of the role involves promoting the league on social media and managing scheduling platforms such as DragonFly and FinalForms.

Candidate Requirements

The Senate League is seeking candidates with:

  • Proven Leadership: 5+ years in athletic administration, coaching, or educational leadership.

  • Regulatory Expertise: Deep familiarity with OHSAA bylaws and Title IX compliance.

  • Operational Excellence: Experience in tournament management and official assigning.

  • Technology Proficiency: Ability to promote the league via social media and manage digital scheduling platforms.

Job Description

The Northeast Senate League is seeking a principled, organized, and proactive League Commissioner to oversee the league operations and strategic direction of our high school athletic conference. As the primary executive officer, you will serve as the bridge between member school districts, the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), and the broader interscholastic athletic community.

Your mission is to ensure a fair, exciting, and competitive environment that prioritizes the student-athlete experience while maintaining the highest standards of sportsmanship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Governance & Compliance: Interpret and enforce league bylaws and OHSAA regulations. Facilitate monthly meetings with school athletic directors and quarterly meetings with league superintendents. 

  • Scheduling & Coordination: Oversee the master schedules for all league sports.  Facilitate the assigning of officials for all league contests.  

  • Financial Oversight: Manage the league budget, collect member dues, and oversee the procurement of league awards. 

  • Tournament Management: Organize and execute league-wide tournaments.

Experience

5+ years in athletic administration, coaching, or educational leadership.

Knowledge

Deep familiarity with OHSAA rules, Title IX compliance, and Ohio high school sports culture.

Communication

Exceptional public speaking, leadership, and mediation skills.

Technology Skills

Proficiency in scheduling software (e.g., DragonFly, FinalForms, or ArbiterSports).  The commissioner is expected to promote the league on social media platforms. 

Fund Raising

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to partner with businesses in all eight (8) communities to raise money to help offset the costs of running a successful league.
