Welcome to the Minerva Local School District Website
Spanning 81 square miles, Minerva Local School District serves the educational needs of students residing in Stark, Carroll and Columbiana counties. We are located in a rural area of NE Ohio, and the main thoroughfare is The Lincoln Highway. Currently, the district consists of Minerva Elementary School with approximately 850 students enrolled, Minerva Middle School with approximately 450 students enrolled, and Minerva High School with approximately 600 students enrolled. Juniors and seniors at Minerva High School also have the option of attending R. G. Drage Career and Technical Center. This year approximately 160 students will attend R. G. Drage.
Through staff and community support, Minerva Local students have the opportunity to achieve excellence in academics and extra-curricular endeavors. A committed teaching and support staff, and an involved community have created a culture of support and encouragement for our students. Because of the support of Minerva Local taxpayers, our students are able to receive the highest quality education in state-of-the-art facilities.
A collaborative effort between the Board of Education and all Minerva Local employees has allowed our District finances to remain stable. Our District has not asked for new operating money since 1992. A strong commitment to responsible financial management while still effectively educating our students has and will remain a priority at Minerva Local. Again, we are committed to Every Child, Every Minute, Every Day!
Minerva Local School District’s goal for each student who graduates is to be college and/or career ready. Students who leave Minerva high school can further their education at a college or technical school; enter the work force, or serve our nation in the United States Military. This year high school students can earn up to 41 college credit hours through a partnership with Kent State University, The University of Akron, and The University of Mount Union.
Awards and Distinctions
In 2014, Minerva Local Schools was awarded a Young Entrepreneurs Straight A Grant. The goal of the grant was to eliminate the walls and boundaries of learning for the middle and high school students by providing the resources needed to design engaging work, expand blended learning, enhance STEM initiatives and incorporate more problem based learning.
Minerva Local Schools was recently awarded the distinction of being a Google for Education Reference District due to the fact that we have demonstrated innovation, vision and academic leadership through our strong adoption of the Google for Education suite.
Minerva Elementary school was recognized at the bronze level for their success with Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS). PBIS involves teaching students expected behaviors in a consistent and positive way, modeling and acknowledging those behaviors, and helping all students meet expectations and be successful.
