Dear Kindergarten Parents,
We are excited to have your child joining us at Minerva Elementary School for the 2017 - 2018 school year.
Due to changes in the kindergarten assessment requirements, we no longer need to test your child prior to entering kindergarten. Therefore, you do not need to bring your child in for the kindergarten pretesting that was originally scheduled for Tuesday, August 1 or Wednesday, August 2. We will NOT be doing ANY testing on these dates.
As a reminder -- on Monday, August 14 through Wednesday, August 16, we will hold our Get Ready for Kindergarten program from 9 AM – 1 PM. Breakfast will be available (at no cost) beginning at 8:30 AM on the morning of classes. If you elect not to have breakfast here at school, you will not need to bring your child until 9 AM. Lunch will be provided to the children these days. You should plan to drop your child off through Door D, which is located on the east side of the school (facing the Middle School). We will post kindergarten homeroom assignments on the morning of August 14 in the hallway outside the kindergarten classrooms.
Don’t forget - Meet the Teacher for all students & parents is Monday, August 21 from 5 – 6:30 PM. This will be a great opportunity for you to take a tour of the school and visit your child’s classroom. From 6 – 6:30 kindergarten parents should plan to stay in your child’s homeroom for a Kindergarten Information Meeting. We will have staff on hand to monitor your children at this time, so that you may attend this presentation. If you have older children, you may want to visit their homeroom(s) prior to visiting the kindergarten class, so that you will be able to attend the meeting.
In addition, your child’s homeroom teacher will want to set up a testing time (which will take approximately 45 minutes to one hour), for either Wednesday, August 23 or Thursday, August 24. There will be NO classes for kindergarten students on those days. The first day of Kindergarten will be on Friday, August 25.
Again, we want to welcome you and your child to our school. We are confident that they will have a wonderful kindergarten experience.
